Bought a house 2007 in Burnside heights. Lived the nightmare of not being able to drive past Gilson college. Westwood. The work and these small round about cause accidents everytime. We pay tax but we are ignored not serviced

Dear Brimbank City Council and Victorian State Government,

I am writing to formally raise serious and ongoing safety concerns regarding Taylors Road, specifically at the point where the road transitions from the Brimbank municipality into Hume City Council.

This section of road, where traffic changes from one lane to two lanes, has become a recognised accident hotspot. Over the past 13 years of living off Taylors Road, I have personally witnessed numerous major accidents in this location, many of which have been severe.

The issue is clear: as the road expands from one lane to two, drivers accelerate and attempt to overtake within a short distance, often in an unsafe manner. This behaviour consistently creates dangerous conditions and has resulted in repeated collisions. The inconsistent lane configuration contributes to driver confusion, speeding, and high-risk manoeuvres.

It is deeply concerning that despite the frequency and severity of these incidents, no permanent solution has been implemented. How many more innocent people need to be seriously injured or lose their lives before this upgrade is taken seriously and acted upon by the responsible authorities?

A practical and effective solution would be to widen Taylors Road to provide two continuous lanes in each direction along this stretch. This would remove the current bottleneck, discourage unsafe overtaking, and significantly improve both traffic flow and overall road safety.

Given that this issue spans municipal boundaries, I strongly urge Brimbank City Council and the Victorian State Government to work collaboratively with Hume City Council to prioritise and deliver a long-term safety upgrade for this section of Taylors Road.

Taylor’s road has been the biggest head ache ever since I’ve moved into the area in 2018, every single day without fail the road disappoints me with traffic, pot holes damaging my car, road rage incidents with impatient drivers and much more. This road is absolute hell 24/7, even when I’m on my way home around 2-3am after a night shift I still manage to get stuck behind someone doing under the limit causing me to get stuck behind the whole stretch due to only being 1 lane. Even when I was at school my bus would always be delayed due to traffic causing me to be late to school missing out on crucial learning time every single day, the future generation doesn’t deserve to be late to school because of traffic.

It’s frustrating! I would prefer to wait at three sets of traffic lights to turn right onto Kings Road rather than taking Taylors Road and turning right at Tennyson. There are a lot of impatient people and drivers

The morning traffic gets stunted by the buses stopping to let commuters on and off. Meanwhile drivers are overtaking the bus through the middle of the road dangerously close to the oncoming traffic. The same can be said when it’s bin collection day. The delays go way past the school. That stretch is not the only part of taylors road that needs to be fixed. From the round about at Watervale shopping centre to the the gourlay road round about is shocking for the lack of traffic flow. 1 lane to go straight…….the traffic banks up sometimes almost to the school. As for gourlay road onwards there’s plenty of road works there but the inconsistencies between single and double lanes is astounding. All new estates being built which shows huge growth of car users in the area should be double lanes all the way with some more traffic lights to make it safer for everyone!

Sometimes to go out from our driveway right hand turn sometimes takes 2 to 6 minutes or more when it’s busy and sometimes no giveaway and we have to go left and go around from Forest Street and we go on the lights on Taylors Road Copperfield dr

I live right next to and work on Taylor’s Road. The commute that should take less than 10 minutes has become highly disruptive, sometimes getting so poor that going all the way around on Hume Drive or through the backstreets of Delahey or Kings Park has been a better option. Even getting home from the station at 5pm after the school rush is complete standstill.

Hopefully along with its duplication the roads connecting to it are also assisted. And hopefully Melton can follow suit past Gilson.

Lived here for about 15 years now but these past few of years have really opened my eyes to how much the area is growing and how much this road is such a massive bottleneck for the community.

Need to use Taylors Rd to drive my son to Copperfield College. The school is only a few minutes away but the depression sets in everyday once we hit the roundabout at Gilson College. Dozens of drivers everyday illegally turning right from the left-hand lane at this roundabout, exiting from Tenterfield Dr, so they can turn into Gilson College. I can see it is a massive hassle to do the legal turn from the correct lane and then hope someone lets you into the left lane to enter Gilson College, as it is bumper to bumper here.

Even on weekends the road is a hassle to drive. At around 11am, it is again backed up at Gilson College. That’s 1.7km of single lane, bumper to bumper traffic to hit Kings Rd on a bloody weekend. How fun. We have to dip through Kurung Dr to Gillespie Rd instead.

We have also had a crash at the Braeswood Rd lights in 2025. Coming back home during peak hours. So this road will stay tainted with us forever.

Dangerous road to use during peak hours. I only hope it’s duplicated before I die. Been waiting 20 years !!

I live right next to gilson college and next to the point where it becomes 2 lanes to 1 lane you can say good bye to going to work early. Times when I need to go to work at 6am. The whole road is already packed at 5am in the morning. The amount of times I missed the train at keilor plains from what supposed to be a 5 min drive is now a leave 40 mins earlier before the train. And the stop lights into delahey are horrible. You will be at the red light for 5 minutes and the green light only lets in two cars. Then the traffic there goes all the way to copperfield. And leaving Taylors road shopping centre is harder than winning the lottery

My mum lives in a retirement village in Caroline Springs. I have to time when I go and visit her to avoid the after school grid lock on Taylors Rd. It took me 30 minutes the other day just to get thru the Taylor’s Rd section near her house.

Also it is a safety issue in another way. My mum often needs ambulance transport as do many other residents at the retirement village. It’s ridiculous that ambulances are getting delayed in this bottle neck of a road.

The stretch of Taylors Road between Kings Park and Gilson College has become increasingly unsafe and unmanageable. Despite clear population growth and the availability of land for duplication, there has been no meaningful progress to upgrade this critical road.

What should be a short, routine drive has turned into a daily source of stress and risk. A journey that should take minutes often takes 20–25 minutes just to reach Keilor Plains Station. Congestion forces dangerous merging, aggressive driving, and frequent near misses.

Unfortunately, for us, it didn’t stop at near misses.

We were involved in an accident on this road, and what made it worse was the impact it had on our children. The experience left them deeply shaken. Since then, even the thought of travelling through that stretch has caused anxiety and distress. What should be a simple school or daily commute became a source of fear for our family.

That was the turning point.

Despite owning and loving our home, we made the difficult decision to move out and rent elsewhere—purely to ensure our children feel safe. Relocating has helped reduce their anxiety and has given us some peace of mind on the roads. But it has come at a cost.

We are now away from our community, our facilities, and our children’s regular activities and development opportunities. What was once a stable and convenient life has been disrupted—not by choice, but by necessity.

This is no longer just an inconvenience—it is a safety issue. It is impacting families, affecting mental wellbeing, and ultimately reducing the livability and value of the area.

We urge the relevant authorities, including Brimbank City Council and VicRoads, to prioritise the duplication of Taylors Road between Kings Park and Gilson College.

Action needs to be taken before more families go through similar experiences—or worse.

We are not asking for luxury. We are asking for safe, functional infrastructure that matches the growth of our community.

Please take this seriously. No family should have to leave their home just to feel safe on the road.

While we love Taylors Hill, we are being forced to relocate because of the inaction of government to duplicate Taylors Road. The land is there, but instead we are being forced to merge files and take 25 mins the get from Taylors Hill to Keilor Plains station.
I’ve been rear ended twice, been dangerously cut off weekly and missed trains and appointments because no one wants to spend the money to upgrade, even though we spend thousands of dollars on rates and car registration every year, not to mention the millions of dollars that developers pay in infrastructure contributions- so where does it go? This inaction is holding the west back and hurting our resale value, quite frankly it’s ridiculous and so is the red tape holding back this duplication.

I am a member of the Aintree SES and we will often avoid Taylors Rd and instead take longer routes on the Western Fwy or Melton Hwy, even though Taylors Rd is our closest east-west main road.

At times we have cut through suburban streets in our emergency vehicles on the way to a call-out just to avoid the traffic.

Twice now I have seen vehicles cut across the nature strip and drive on the footpath to get around traffic. The traffic is always bad around school times and peek hour morning and night. it needs to be fixed before somebody gets killed

My husband is driving everyday and the daily frustration we both have sometimes becoming late to work is nuts. We were promised an proper infrastructure around our new area and it’s still struggling.

The build up of traffic along Taylors Road heading towards Fraser Rise is ridiculous due to the bank up of cars as two lanes have to merge into one and many cars are not adhering to the road laws which makes this dangerous and fruit. By the time I get home I’m already angry before I walk in house.

Always get stuck on kings rd as the traffic going to Taylors Rd blocks to get through

Takes me 45 minutes to travel 4.5 kms on Taylors road at 8am.

I have missed out on work opportunities which entail me travelling up taylors road. The traffic there up and back is at a total stand still at all hours of the day abd night. I also have a friend who lives in the Fraser rise area and I refuse to meet her at home so we often meet at watergardens shopping centre ibstead. This needs urgent attention as it’s dangerous and since all the new homes have been established in the area, it’s become worse. Think of your citizens in the west and make our roads safe.

I have witnessed too many near misses on the roundabouts along Taylor’s Road especially during school times. All roundabouts need to be updated with the ones near Watervale Shopping centre and Gourlay Road removed and proper intersection with traffic lights put in their own place.

I’m just so tired of being stuck in traffic on Taylors Road. The daily congestion is unbearable. I sometimes choose to not go out as I have anxiety about the road and the situation it puts me in. The current state of Taylors Road is not fit for the amount of drivers using it. It’s busy all the time. Do something about it.

I have no choice but to use Taylor’s road or Westwood drive to drive to Burnside Heights and it is extremely frustrating to see traffic after traffic after traffic. We can only hope these roads are duplicated in the near future. We pay rego, rates, taxes and still get hit by traffic.

I have lived in Delahey for over 30 years and it’s been a great area to live in. Over the years there have been new suburbs and developments in the West of the city of Brimbank and in the City of Melton area.

Unfortunately with the new suburbs there also needs to be the infrastructure to go with it as the population dramatically increases. Roads and public transport but not exclusive are a big part of infrastructure requirements that have clearly been overlooked and neglected in regards to Taylors Road.

I regularly use Copperfield drive towards Taylors Road. There is a set of traffic lights there to allow residents from Delahey to enter Taylors Road. The Huge increase in the bumper to bumper traffic on Taylors Road has lead to NOT been able to enter Taylors road during peak times.

I’ve had to wait for 6 sets of traffic lights to enter Taylors road at times as the road is completely congested. I feel imprisoned in my suburb and now try to avoid peak hour traffic at all cost.

Shame on the State Labor Government for a neglect of Infrastructure in the North West of Melbourne. People keep voting for the labor government in the North West Melbourne area, we get nothing and totally dismissed.

Maybe it’s time people seek alternative Government options and send the government a clear message that we are NOT happy with their neglect of our area.

There is an upcoming state election and the Labor Government need to be accountable for their NEGLECT. Maybe the Government opposition may be more forthcoming in addressing this critical issue and make a binding commitment to addressing this problem.

Thank you for Lobbying the State Labor Government for this critical connection to infrastructure in widening Taylors Road in our area. I hope the State Government takes our concerns seriously.

I live in Caroline Springs close to CS Square and my kid goes to a mild intellectual disability school in St Albans. Every morning, the commute on Taylors Road is horrendous especially starting on the approach to Gilson College and lasting up to Kings Road. The frustration it builds is through the roof and the collective inefficiencies are inexcusable.

My wife works in the CBD and relies on public transport to get to and from work. The worst part of her commute is not the changing of trains/trams but the first leg of the journey of getting to Keilor Plains station in the mornings and even worse is getting back home from Keilor Plains train station. Sometimes it takes the same amount of time to get to the City from Keilor Plains station than from Keilor Plains to Caroline Springs, sometimes worse on a bad day. All thanks to Taylors Road traffic.

In addition to duplication of Taylors Road, it would also help heaps if a pedestrian overbridge could be built in front of Gilson College to reduce the congestion caused by the traffic lights and the resulting gridlock caused by vehicles exiting and entering the campus.

I beg of the authorities, please help fix this stretch.

I have lived in St Albans for almost 26 years and have witnessed the increased congestion on Taylors Road. Due to the increased development of outer suburbs, without the proper road infrastructure to support to the same. this has caused significant delays to my travel time getting to and from work whereby, I am now considering moving closer into the city to avoid this problematic traffic that is largely caused by the traffic congestion on Taylors Road. It feels as though more affluent suburbs are prioritised for road infrastructure over the western suburbs. This is leading to equitable access to vital services and to quality of life. It’s time that the western suburbs are prioritised and given equitable access to equal infrastructure to support the increase of outer suburbs that is now putting additional pressure on pre-existing suburbs such as St Albans unfairly and unjustifiably.
