Every day, thousands of people who drive through Brimbank battle against the relentless traffic congestion on Taylors Road. Council has heard the community and is calling on the government to declare Taylors Road a state-managed major arterial and to duplicate it. Community members are invited to join the campaign.
Running through Keilor Downs, St Albans, Delahey and Kings Park, Taylors Road links growing suburbs and major routes. Together with Green Gully Road, it forms a critical arterial connection between the Calder and Western Freeways. While once fit-for-purpose, Taylors Road has far outgrown its original capacity and is now one of the west's most travelled routes for commuters, trucks and local traffic.
The road is heavily congested at all peak times, and with the population continuing to grow, it no longer meets the demand, with traffic jams, safety risks and accidents consistently increasing along with commuters frustration. This is now an urgent concern for Brimbank community and beyond.
While some sections have been duplicated, Taylors Road in Delahey, between Kings Road and Watervale Boulevard, still needs urgent and significant investment to duplicate and manage into the future.
Advocacy call
Duplicating the entire length of Taylors Road has long been one of Brimbank Council’s key advocacy priorities, reflecting community feedback and the needs of the west’s growing residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
Council is urging the State Government to take responsibility for Taylors Road and complete its full duplication, to improve safety, reduce congestion, and support Brimbank’s growing community. With the State election fast approaching, Council is calling on all major political parties to commit to fixing Taylors Road once and for all.
